The Olympic Park project of Ashgabat was designed both to fulfill the sports gruonds needs of the city and to have the core facilities in place for a future olympic park or a venue for similar international sport organisations. The project was designed on a 92 hectare plot.
The 30,000 seat capacity stadium, which was completed in the year 2000, was designed as a part of the Ashgabat Olympic Park Project.
The stadium, besides its contemporary design, was also equipped with the reqiured olympic infrastructure, lightening, tv network communication, and ease of accessibility.
The stadium contains a 2 storey car park for 1350 vehicles underneath.
The horizontal space left between the ground level and the upper grandstand, and the vertical spaces left between the grandstand divisions help defining the stadium as a dynamic and modern structure in a humane scale.
Eventhough primarily a functional structure , the stadium has a form which would enrich the urban image, as is seen in other similar examples around the world.
